On-Call Clean Up Program Guidelines

All single family, multi-plex, and multi-family residential customers receive one (1) on call clean-up day per household /unit per year at no additional charge.

  • Collection of up to 3 cubic yards (3′ x 3′ x 9′) of materials and up to 3 large bulky items (up to 150 lbs. each) per set out. This includes collection of clean undamaged reusable items that are set apart from other items.
  • A fee is charged for materials volume exceeding 3-cubic yards and 3 bulky items. Contact us for rates.
  • Extra clean up days can be arranged for a fee. Contact us for rates.

Large Bulky Item Collection Program

Up to three (3) large bulky items such as appliances, mattresses, and furniture (up to 150 lbs. each) will be collected. Please remove or seal doors on appliances. One of your bulky items can be electronic waste. Computers, printers, televisions, large microwaves, and similar items are acceptable. Place small e-waste in a discardable box or bag.

Reusable Materials Collection Program*

ACI will collect undamaged items that can be used again. Click here for a list of reusable items examples.

  • Please place reusable items separate from items that will be landfilled, recycled, or composted. Please help our drivers identify reusable items by labeling them “REUSE”. Click here for a printable sign.
  • Reusable items will be sent to a sorting/donation facility (no receipts given for reusable items). PLEASE NOTE: The ACI Alameda Reusable Materials Collection Program is subject to the variability of markets and the reuse organization acceptance policies and procedures, and reuse may be limited at times.

Accepted Items:

  • Up to three (3) large bulky items (up to 150 lbs. per item, remove or seal doors on appliances).
  • Trash that is contained (bagged, boxed, or bundled).
  • Recyclables such as: cardboard, scrap metal, paper, bottles, cans (bagged, boxed, or bundled). Best efforts will be made to recycle these items.
  • Reusable items such as: housewares, toys, sports equipment, non-upholstered furniture, clothing (clean and dry), accessories, framed pictures/art, craft/sewing items, books, magazines, CDs, VHS, and DVDs. Clean undamaged items only. (Please bag or box small/multiple/loose items).

Please Remember:

  • Place items curbside or at the arranged collection location* by 6am on the scheduled pickup day.
  • Do not set items out more than 24-hours in advance.
  • Please do not block street or sidewalk access.
  • A fee is charged for materials volume exceeding 3-cubic yards and 3 bulky items. Contact us for rates.
  • No single item over 150 pounds.
  • Please contain (bag, box, or bundle) loose/small/multiple items.
  • Two different vehicles will be collecting the materials that are set out.

 

*Multi-plex and Multi-family customers please coordinate with your building manager/owner a suitable collection location that is accessible to ACI collection vehicles before scheduling your on call clean-up.

 

Please Note:

Scrap Metal: Items (less than 30lbs.) can also be placed in your blue recyclables cart.

Yard Trimmings: Grass clippings, leaves, and small branches less, than 6″ in diameter can also go in the green organics cart.

Household Batteries: Place alkaline and lithium batteries in a clear, zipper-locked bag on the top of (not inside) your blue recyclables collection cart. Please tape all terminals on all lithium, 6-volt and 9-volt alkaline batteries.

THESE ITEMS ARE NOT ACCEPTED IN THE ON-CALL CLEAN UP/BULKY ITEM, AND REUSABLE ITEM COLLECTION PROGRAMS:

  • Dirt, rocks, and construction or demolition debris – Debris box service is available for these items. Click here for more information about debris box services and rates. 
  • Abandoned automobiles, trees, or any single item (e.g. large auto parts, etc.) that exceeds 150 lbs. in weight.
  • Household hazardous waste (HHW) – radioactive materials, unwanted medications and sharps, poisonous or toxic materials are not accepted in any Alameda County Industries collection carts or bins. Got Extra?

Additional garbage, bulky or e-waste items can be collected for a charge. A special type of collection bin is required for construction, demolition, and landscaping materials. Contact us for more information.

REMEMBER, IT’S ALWAYS BETTER TO REUSE, RECYCLE, COMPOST, OR DONATE THAN TO DISPOSE!

Before throwing items away, consider reusing, donating or recycling them as an alternative.
